On the irony of summer

Branched Oak Lake Park, May 27, 2006

Don’t you hate summer? The unbearable heat when you first get in your car; the lazy Sundays, all the energy spent on air conditioning… I could go on and on with that list. Obviously I am a winter kinda guy. Well, off course I am not counting spring or fall, because weather is much more mild in those seasons than the other two. But comparing just summer and winter, I am winter all the way. When you’re cold, you can always put another layer of clothes to keep yourself warm, but when it’s warm, there are just so many layers you can take off.

People will try everything to trick the heat. They will get together in the park, prepare a barbecue, and have steak, pork, chicken, sausage, and lots of sodas (alcoholic beverages are prohibited in parks).

And then, when you’re full, tired of playing soccer, and sweaty, you have to go to the lake to freshen up (especially if you can get there without finding any unexpected surprises). That cold, chilly water will make your bones shiver.

After everything is over, you then have to pack everything back up, and you might end up going to see the rest of the lake and finding a spot to wait for the sunset, either standing or sitting, waiting patiently.

People will get bored and start to try some tricks with the camera.

Oh, I hate the summer! Let the winter gods come soon to bring a smile at our faces with their white gold and with the joy of being alive!
